The 'Official' Becta Step by step guide for school leadership
1. Headteacher looks at self-review framework on Becta site.
2. Headteacher registers school (for free) on the site.
3. Headteacher discusses the self-review framework with senior leadership team. They may decide to start by looking at the leadership and management element. They divide up the aspects of this element among the team and agree to share their perceptions at the next meeting.
4. Senior leadership team complete the leadership and management element by discussing their perceptions of the school's level in the different sections of the matrix.
5. As a result of their review of the leadership and management element, the senior leadership team decide to make other elements of the self-review framework a focus for whole school review over the next term.
6. Using the tool's group facility, they collate the views of staff on the school's position in the self-review framework.
7. An action plan is produced after modification to suit the school's specific needs.

Whilst this is an excellent plan to get started, very little information is given as to the 'look and feel' of the action plan mentioned in item 7. It is also important to understand how the action plan fits in with the other plans, such as the school improvement plan, school development plan, ICT development plan etc. etc. There seems to be an amount of crossover, with little clarity. Some exemplars are needed, as is a planning process that joins the dispersed dots. Hopefully we can start to remedy this on this Wiki.

The 'Unofficial' Step by step guide for school leadership
1. Headteacher looks at self-review framework on Becta site, and reads the guidance provided by Becta.
2. Headteacher registers school on the matrix tool and discusses the self-review framework with senior leadership team. They decide to start by looking at the leadership and management element. They divide up the aspects of this element among the team and agree to share their perceptions at the next meeting.
3. At the next available meeting Senior leadership team discuss the leadership and management element, and look at overall school improvement/development priorities and how ICT can move the school forward in the other self-review elements.
4. Stakeholders are consulted (Governors, students, parents) to create or renew the Educational ICT vision for the school.
5. The Education vision for ICT, and strategy for achieving the vision is agreed. An action plan is produced that suits the school's specific needs.

Note Some schools may wish to share the process of completing the SRF online among staff or with other people involved with the school. You may also want other schools to see your comments, or to see their comments. This involves creating multiple logins and allocating "tokens". This process is described in Becta - SRF Sharing Answers (PDF file 12/2006)
